China Associate, CSO Engagement

Position Description
The China CSO Engagement Associate will be part of a global team responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with, and information about civil society organizations in China that are relevant to the sectors within which FLA operates. The China CSO Engagement Associate will report to the Director of CSO Engagement.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Identify and engage with civil society organizations in China working on issues and sectors within which FLA operates.
a) Maintain frequent and active communication with local civil society organizations, so that they are aware of FLA activities and the FLA is informed of the perspectives and issues faced by workers and their advocates, and are therefore better equipped to address issues in a timely manner.
b) Communicate FLA's safeguard mechanisms proactively to CSOs and how best they can go about using them.
c) Develop ongoing relationships with local civil society organizations that have significant interest in FLA-related issues and engage them proactively to develop collaborative efforts.
d) Take and active role to ensure that insights and concerns of civil society organizations in China can be advanced and addressed through the FLA.
e) Attend meetings, conferences and other events representing the FLA, its work and perspective and to better understand perspectives from various stakeholders.
2. Understand and drive collaborative efforts to advance priority issues identified by local partners.
a) Research and conduct gap analysis to enable the FLA to play a constructive role in raising
and developing collective action around an issue.
b) Organize local or regional stakeholder convenings.
c) Develop and manage issue-based research projects and reports.
3. Contribute to the evaluation of FLA's programs, ensuring that insights and concerns of CSOs are well represented in those processes, and a mechanism is in place for their engagement and participation.
4. Assist in relevant Third Party Complaints and other safeguard actions and assist in dealing with other labor dispute cases as necessary.
OTHER DUTIES (10% of time):
1. Undertake missions, as required, independently or as part of a team.
2. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KEY SKILLS/ABILITIES:
? Knowledge of labor rights and globalization issues
? Research experience related to the field of human and labor rights
? Understanding of supply chain issues related to the apparel/footwear industry, agriculture, or electronic sector, a plus
? Excellent written, verbal and analytical skills
? Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills; flexibility and willingness to work on a wide range of tasks and project, and ability to prioritize
? Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills with sensitivity to cultural communication differences
? High level of self-motivation, ease in working independently and carrying tasks through to completion
? The ability to multitask and work on various projects is essential
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
? Strong knowledge of MS Office programs
? Three to five years experience working in the labor rights field
? Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in labor, international relations, or relevant degree, preferred
? Experience working on issues related to apparel/footwear, agriculture, and/or electronic supply chains, a plus.
? Must be fluent in English and Mandarin.
Extensive in-country travel is required. Some international travel may be necessary.
